Karma Pool

The purpose of the Karma pool is to reward and punish players in the game depending on a variety of factors. The pool will start with 2 White and 1 Black Karma (denoted by dice or pieces). The system should not be used to force players to take certain actions or TPK them, but should encourage them to step out of their comfort zones and go above and beyond.

White Karma

  • Put into the pool if Players go above and beyond in-game. Ex. role-playing very well or completing a hidden objective within the game.
  • Players may use White Karma to succeed any one failed check of their choice, the catch however is that the Player must explain how they succeed in-game. Ex. You may need to make a jump check to save you ally who is falling, and you roll a 1. Using 1 White Karma you manage to grab a the dangling rope to swing in and catch them.

Black Karma

  • Put into the pool if Players disrupt the flow of the game or are out of line in-game. Ex. Not paying attention, distracted on the internet, setting the NPC town they are supposed to save on fire, etc.
  • The GM is allowed to use Black Karma to make a Player fail a check automatically. Ex. The Barbarian is just rolling through a dungeon and not letting any of his party part take in the kills or fights. When it comes to the boss the Barbarian rolls a 20 on a Will Save to resist a spell. Using Black Karma the GM decides that Barbarian failed the check and is now helpless.

If there is an instance where a Player uses White Karma to counteract the GM's use of Black Karma, the GM's Black Karma trumps the Player's White Karma
